The Bases For The Natural Dyes

We love wool - a sustainable and renewable resource.  It makes an excellent base for natural dyes.

We are constantly exploring and looking to add new yarn and fibre bases for our natural dyes.  Here are the ones that we are using currently:

  • Organic merino wool - this is next-to-skin soft and is milled in the GTA.  It contains certified organic merino produced using two fundamental and linked principles of protecting the environment and social/fair trade
    • Fingering - 100% organic merino - 420 yards per 110 g skein
    • Sock - 80% organic superwash merino, 20% nylon - 420 yards per 110 g skein
    • Sport - 100% organic merino - 280 yards per 110 g skein
    • Worsted - 100% organic merino - 210 yards per 110 g skein
    • Fibre - 100% organic merino - sold in 110 g braids
  • Local wool - 100% Ontario wool  sourced from local producers with happy sheep
    • Dorset - a worsted weight grown in Ontario with both a grey and an off-white base.  It is spongy and would make great outerwear. There are 200 yards per 110g skein.
    • Ontario Fingering Weight Single - 430 yards per 110 g skein
  • Superwash Wool - for those who prefer superwash wool, we have options!
    • Sock - 80% organic superwash merino, 20% nylon - 420 yards per 110 g skein

    • Bulky - 80% superwash merino, 20% nylon - 70 yards per 110 g skein
  • Merino Cashmere Silk - such soft, shiny luxury!  This is made of 75% superwash merino, 15% cashmere, and 10% silk.  When only the best will do!
